![]() This bizarre looking purple speckled semi-transparent chips are actually really really tasty if you're into REALLY crunchy healthy chips. Think of it like a thick hard version of rice paper that tastes like chips and taro.
Taro is a root vegetable much like a potato. I'm not sure what dishes taro are used for and I have never bought taro in a vegetable form, but I've had it in sweet bubble tea (aka pearl drink), which is like a "bizarre" yummy smoothie that can be purchased at Thai restaurants or bubble tea houses in places like NYC. The authentic bubble teas are best in cities like NYC. Check out my bubble tea post. The chips are by Terra, which also has a variety of different vegetable chips, as a healthier option to regular fried potato chips. You can the taro chips flavored (Mediterranean, seasoned, etc) in get a bag with a variety mix of other chips, or get it taro only. They use natural flavoring and seasonings on all their varieties. The taste is sort of like sunflower seeds without the shell and less or without the nutty taste. In the grocery stores and retail, they sell it really expensive, usually in the organic/health foods aisle, about $4 for 6 oz, while alternative places like Big Lots or Ocean State Joblot for about $2. It has become a ritual to regularly look for sales on Terra whenever I am in the chip aisle.
