Frozen Mocha Wannabe

This is actually one of the few experiments gone terribly wrong.  This frozen mocha looks delicious, but tastes pretty funky (in a bad way), which leads me to a good question--how do I un-nastify this?

I don't like coffee, but I'm pretty fond of Panera Bread's Frozen coffee mocha drinks, because it tastes like ice cream, and I love coffee ice cream.  But I didn't want to spend the money on "eating out" so I attempted to create a more affordable, healthier version of Panera Bread's Frozen Caramel.  I bought one of those containers full of mocha coffee powder (you can get in the coffee aisle of a grocery store).  Tossed some ice in a blender, the mocha powder, a scoop or two of condensed milk, non-dairy creamer, squirt of caramel (ice cream topping) and blend.  The blend naturally creates a frothy froth so when I poured the mocha mixture in a mug, it looked pretty cool with the froth on top.  Then I decide to make it look pretty by squirting some caramel pattern on top.

But when I drank that stuff.. it was pretty funky and I couldn't understand what went wrong.  It tasted sort of bitter, so I tried adding more condensed milk and caramel to make it sweeter, but it was lacking the mocha-ness... maybe lacking chocolate flavor.  I guess the mocha powder is meant to be more of a coffee drink instead of a hot chocolate type of drink....   which just gives me an idea!  Next time I'll mix in hot chocolate powder with some mocha powder and see how that turns out.

Panera bread uses heavy cream and/or milk.  For those who are lactose intolerant.. that can be substituted with non-dairy creamer.  A lot of Asians are lactose intolerant so the tea/coffee shops that you may go to in Chinatown NYC, for example, uses non-dairy creamer.  It tastes different but it's not that bad.. it just adds the creamy milky texture to your drink.
