The first time I heard MGMT's song "Kids" was on Yahoo Music "Sweaty Indie Dance Party!" before I heard it on the radio. I thought it was really bizarre song but sounded intriguing. I after a little research online, I found out MGMT started writing these music when they were students at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT more of a joke to annoy their friends. Then eventually they were doing gigs and became viral in 2 years. That is amazing. Back to MGMT's song: I thought the beginning instrumentals of "Kids" set the bizarre aura of the song. The vocals are very unique too. I know it sounds auto-tuned, but the way they put together the song, made it catchy, creative and genius. I needed to satisfy my curiosity and find out what kind of a music video they would make out of it. So I YouTubed it and found that MGMT made a really bizarre music video featuring a mom's baby who sees monsters (instead of people) everywhere, and from user comments, supposedly it is a metaphor for kids being exposed to too many drugs. It starts off with a dramatic symphony version of the song with narratives like StarWars in the beginning. At one point MGMT is in the video in silver make up and costume.. and then eventually the video becomes an animated cartoon. The clips of the MGMT's live performances on YouTube seem cool and engaging. The song allows the audience to even hum the beginning of the song in high pitch. Other MGMT songs that are really bizarre and catchy are "Electric Feel." The vocals have a very Bee Gees style to it, and the music video also is really creative, colorful, and bizarre as well. Eventually I started hearing MGMT everywhere on the radio. Both "Kids" and "Electric Feel" have also been played in clubs featuring other Indie artists.
