Boy in the Little Blue Ball
By Markus Pope
submitted on: 1999

in a field full of yellow flowers
there's a little boy in a ball
he's been sitting by himself for hours
and he hasn't said a word at all

a little ways away there's a cluster of ants
moving little bits of dirt and muck around
he pays no attention to their frantic dance
he just sits and stares coldly at the ground

finches pass by in attempt to bug the boy
finches have way too much to say
but the boy seems impossible to annoy
so the finches get bored and fly away

a small monarch butterfly flutters about
and she lits upon the boy in the ball
she sits in wait for the boy to shout
but the boy doesn't see or feel her at all

the days move about above his head
and the air around him continues to blow
the flowers in the field turn from yellow to red
seasons change, and the boy doesn't seem to know

there's a man in the boy in the little blue ball
in a field full of flowers that have all gone red
there's a team full of doctors observing from the hall
trying to fix what's going wrong in the young man's head
