Windows
By Markus Pope
submitted on: 1999

I see you through your window
You stare off into space
At times I think you see me
From the expressions on your face

But it's just my mind wistful
My inner bastard playing jest
Longing for you too wishful
To lie your head upon my chest

Sometimes I see you writing
I wonder what you've said
Is she writing for a new love
Or cutting loose a love that's dead

I imagine you writing me
And I am many miles away
Coming to you by land and sea
Tales of you to find my way

Walking past at times I see you smile
Wondering what you find so light
I justify and stop and watch a while
Then stumble blindly into the night

Once I thought to speak to you
Bright idea, I could find no word
Choked on my thought and began to slew
A jumbled up mass of letter and verb

Now I'm content just to sit in wait
For a second, a hour, a day, or week
To get up early or to stay up late
